Rsync + 200 Gb en Dreamhost: el backup más sencillo
¿Cómo he tardado tanto en descubrir rsync? Me ha cambiado la vida en el tema de los backups. Mucho más sencillo que andar tostando DVDs de respaldo, o comprimir en .tar.gz para pasar a un disco externo… Por si no lo conoces, fíjate lo sencillo que es respaldar los 83.907 ficheros (2,2 Gb) que componen mi carpeta “trabajo”:
rsync -avz –delete –stats –progress ~/trabajo usuario@host:/home/usuario/backups
¡Ya está! Con una sola línea, rsync se encargará de subir todo al host remoto, comprobando para cada uno de los ficheros si ya existe o no y encargándose de eliminar de arriba lo que yo haya borrado abajo (gracias a la opción –delete)… De esa manera tengo un mirror completo de mi carpeta de trabajo en mi servidor de Dreamhost.
Después, para restaurar los ficheros, puedo usar rsync a la inversa, o scp, o ftp…
¿Y por qué en Dreamhost? Bueno, pues porque su plan de hosting incluye 200 Gb de espacio en disco que, naturalmente, están desaprovechados… así que allí tengo mi carpeta de backups con no sólo mis 2 Gb de trabajo, sino mis 3 Gb de fotos, mis 6 Gb de software instalado, etc., etc., y aún me sobra! Por si te interesa, puedes probar el hosting de Dreamhost durante todo un año con un super-descuento.
